How is Your Car's Battery Affected by Extreme Temperatures?

At Autobahn Motors, we try to keep our customers informed about ways that they can extend the life of their car. To keep your vehicle's battery in optimal shape, it needs to be checked and serviced regularly, which is especially true before extremely cold and hot weather.

There are three reasons that can cause car batteries to die in the winter: increased draw from accessories, more draw from the starter motor, and less capacity. Your battery is also put through additional stress during the winter because windshield wipers and headlights are typically used more often. During the summer, hot temperatures can lead to a shorter battery life. If the electrolyte in the battery is heated, which is common during the summer, it will evaporate more quickly.
