Mercedes-Benz is notorious for bringing exciting new show cars to the scene which embody the excellence and innovation of the brand, and the AVATAR-inspired VISION AVTR vehicle debuted in early January 2020 is no exception. This new addition to the all-electric future car lineup of Mercedes-Benz takes cinematic elements from the film and unique automotive capabilities and combines them into a true head-turner.
The VISION AVTR Brings Sustainability to the Next Level
From the outside of the VISION AVTR, the interior is mostly visible, with slick white pod-shaped seats and foot-wells on display. The 33 "bionic-flaps" that lay atop the rear of the car and the bulbous, illuminating wheels that make it move, make this car look, if not like a reptile, then some kind of crawling, rolling animal. We can see where the inspiration from the AVATAR film came into play here.
Inside, you'll find a singular control element located where the center console would be in a traditional car, that reacts to human touch with plant-like spirals across the almost completely digital cockpit. This same control can also work to increase or decrease the speed of the VISION AVTR when in motion, as well as seamlessly merge at a 30-degree angle. Real-time 3D graphics swarm atop the digital displays and nearly blend into the real world that lies just beyond the windshield.
Its construction is among the most impressive a concept car has seen, with completely vegan DINAMICA®leather that has a start-to-finish sustainable production process. The exterior material and electric battery construction are also completely free of rare earths and metals, which renders them completely compostable. It's a major innovation in the world of electric cars and signals that they can be free of using fossil resources.
